“Then he said, ‘don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the
first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before
your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your
prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom
of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me,
and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. Now I am
here to explain what will happen to your people in the future, for this vision
concerns a time yet to come.’”

As
Daniel looked up, Gabriel stood before him, wearing a robe as bright as the
morning snow, and around his waist hung a belt made of pure gold, reflecting
the sunlight that glanced off the waters of the river as it gently flowed south
toward the Taurus Mountains of Persia. His face flashed with bolts of
lightning, and his eyes burned with fire. As Gabriel spoke, he roared like a
multitude of angels.
Daniel’s
strength left him as he fell face-first to the ground, trembling in fear.
Gabriel knelt down and picked him up as he spoke softly, “Do not fear me,
Daniel, for you’re precious in the eyes of God. I would have come sooner, but
Satan kept me from traveling to see you. God had to send Michael the Archangel
to free me from his clutches.
“Be
encouraged and stay strong in the Lord, for the God of Peace has lifted you
with His loving arms, giving you the strength and courage you need to withstand
the fiery darts of the enemy. Walk with me now, so that I may share with you
God’s warning to His people.”
As they walked down the river, Gabriel shared
with Daniel God’s warning to the people of Israel. Once again, they have turned
their backs on Him, but, He is a God of mercy, and He is always waiting with
His arms opened wide. God always welcomes His children back home.
