Who is the Angel of the Lord?

I am going to make this short and sweet. I’m in the camp that believes the Angel of the Lord is the preincarnated Son of God. Jesus is the Angel of the Lord of the Old Testament. When you look at the New Testament, the Angel of the Lord is no longer mentioned coming to earth to share God’s message because Jesus had come as the Son of Man. He has always been the Messenger of God.

I am writing about this, because I have Jesus in my book. He has always been and will always be. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He has always been the revelation of God the Father throughout history, and He is also God’s redemptive plan for mankind.

Colossians 1:15-18 “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.
He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.”

“Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, ‘Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!’ and Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.”

(Genesis 15:5-6)

Years later, God and I visited Abram who was now ninety-nine-years-old. God called out to him. “Abram, I am El-Shaddai, the God Almighty. My promises are always true.”

Abram fell to the ground and worshipped Him.

“Abram, your name from now on will be Abraham, for you will be the father of a great nation. Many other nations will also come from your descendants. This is My everlasting covenant with you; I will not only be your God, but I will also be the God of your descendants, and they will always be My people.”…

…When we arrived in Sodom, it was late at night. Instead of being peaceful and quite, I could hear music screaming through the night air as we got closer to the center of town. There were drunks everywhere, and the smell of urine overpowered my senses. I couldn’t believe it. There were prostitutes and debauchery everywhere I turned.

“Let’s hurry, Gabriel. I want to get out of here as soon as possible. This place is filled with evil.”

“Lot lives on the other side of town. Let’s just keep walking, Michael.”

When we got to the end of town, we walked down a dark and dreary street. “How can anyone live here?”

“I don’t know, but Lot’s house is just around the corner.”

When we got to his home, I knocked on the door, as I looked over my shoulder, expecting Satan to lunge out of the shadows. Lot opened the door with a perplexed look. “Who are you?”

“I am Michael the Archangel, and this is Gabriel. We have come to save you from God’s wrath. He is going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah tonight because of their wickedness. Quickly get all that you can and come with us now.”…

            …Lot grabbed his wife, “We’re leaving now.”

“I don’t want to go, Lot,” she screamed, as he dragged her out of the house. I followed them, as they weaved their way through the crowds, making their way out of the city.

         When they were a safe distance away, I looked up to Heaven, as Gabriel stood by my side. “The God of Heaven’s Armies," I cried out. “Rain upon Sodom and Gomorrah your wrath and destruction.” From Heaven, fire and burning sulfur tore through the sky, destroying everything in its path; the people, animals, buildings, and all vegetation. The cities were completely destroyed…

…“Where are we going, Abram?” Sarai asked.

“I don’t know. God told me He would let us know when we got there. He wants us to travel up the Euphrates.”

The journey was long, but the scenery was breathtaking. The Euphrates River is absolutely beautiful this time of year. They traveled up the river, making their way through Babylon. The oak trees stood tall and strong, as if they were reaching towards God’s throne. The marshes were filled with all kinds of wildlife. We even saw a wild boar running through the water chasing an otter through the reeds. I laughed to myself when the boar tumbled through the reeds after the otter made an abrupt turn, disappearing under a log that lay across the marsh.

“Are you sure we’re going the right way, my Uncle?”

Abram laughed as he put his arm around Lot’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. God will protect us.”…

            God promised Abram that, through His seed, the Savior of mankind will be born. Through Jesus Christ, God’s promise of eternal life was fulfilled. When we give our lives to Jesus, we become citizens of Heaven. No matter how hard Satan may try to snatch us from the hands of God, we’re secure in His promise of eternal life. We’re secure in our hope. We are now Heaven bound.

Their names were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. When they saw Job from a distance, they scarcely recognized him. Wailing loudly, they tore their robes and threw dust into the air over their heads to show their grief.”

Gabriel and I walked beside the east wall of Heaven feeling the blades of grass as they gently nestled between our toes. I was brushing my fingertips across the smooth, pearly walls as it glistened from the light that cascaded throughout Heaven. We were talking about how beautiful everything was when God called us to His throne.

We walked through the sea of angels and knelt before Him. God smiled. “Stand My faithful servants. I want the two of you to go to Job’s house. His best friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar have heard what he is going through. They are traveling to see their friend.”…

…The boils continued to form all over Job’s body. Every time he moved, he screamed in pain as pus ran down. “Father, help me,” I could hear Job whisper. “I can’t handle this pain any longer. Please take this away from me.”

            The Apostle Paul found himself in similar circumstances. We don’t know what he was going through, but we do know this; Paul prayed three times for God to take away his thorn in the flesh, but every time God responded the same way: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”

            God has promised that His grace is sufficient for all of our needs. He’s not a cruel God who tortures us for His pleasure. His desire is for us to grow closer to Him in all of our circumstances, good and bad.

“Then the Lord asked Satan, ‘Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.’”

(Job 1:8) 

(Michael the Archangel retelling the story of Job) 

…Satan got up with an evil smile and left Heaven. From a distance I watched as he screamed with delight, “Job, you are mine. I will force you to curse God. You will wish you were never born by the time I am done with you.”

Satan went straight to Job’s home and struck him with horrible boils that covered his whole body. I cringed as I watched Job fall to the ground in agony. When Job’s wife saw him, she acted as if she was repelled by his sight. “Job, why are you continuing to worship God after all that’s happened to us? We’ve lost everything. Our children are dead. Our servants are dead. We’ve lost our livelihood. We’re poor, Job. How can you still worship Him? You should curse God, and die!”

Job looked at her with anger in his eyes. “You’re a foolish woman. Should I only be grateful to God when I receive good things from Him? He’s my God, and I’ll always follow and worship Him no matter what happens.”…  

            We can learn a lesson from this great man. He endured so much, yet in the end, not only did he endure the testing of his faith, but he also grew closer to God. Because of that, God blessed him for his faithfulness.

             Today, we have a Savior who is able to understand what we’re going through in our lives. By becoming a man, Jesus was able to become a merciful and faithful mediator on our behalf. He’s able to help us when we are going through struggles in our lives and when our faith is being tested.

“Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and there he sacrificed as burnt offerings the animals and birds that had been approved for that purpose.  And the Lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice and said to himself, ‘I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living things. As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.’”

(Genesis 8:20-22)

…From the crevices of Hell, demons poured out into the night air, as they hurled balls of fire toward the boat, pounding it ferociously, causing everyone and everything in it to crash to the floor…

Turning to my generals, I shouted. “Let’s protect Noah. We need to send Satan’s demons back to Hell where they belong.” Enveloping the night air, we ascended upon the boat as we deflected the balls of fire that were beating against it.

Satan sent strong winds from the east, creating a massive tidal wave that completely engulfed the boat, sending it deep into the sea. “Save Noah!” I shouted. Angels dove deep into the sea. Moments later, the boat sprang out of the water.

In anger, Satan’s demons tore through the night air attacking us with all they had. The battle lasted all night as we fought bitterly for the safety of Noah and his family. As dawn broke, the demons realized they weren’t going to get through our defenses…

...I made my way back to the boat and looked up to God for help. God pounded His fists as He stood from His throne and declared, “Satan, you are finished! Go back to Hell where you belong! Noah is a righteous man, and I will not let you touch him. You had your chance with him.”

Satan shrieked in disgust as he and his demons were hurled back into Hell. “I will still win, God,” I overheard him shouting. “You can only protect them for so long. They will be mine, you will see. They will be mine,” he roared as he continued falling into the pits of Hell...

After the flood, God gave mankind a sign; the sign of the rainbow. It’s a reminder to us all that He will never destroy the whole earth with a flood again. Over two-thousand years ago, He gave us another sign; the sign of the cross. It’s a reminder to us all that He sent his Son to die for our sins, a reminder to His children that He will never again count their sins against them.

“So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord said, ‘I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all of the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.’ But Noah found favor with the Lord.”

…Turning from Noah, God declared, “Waters from below, open your floodgates and destroy the land. Canopy from above, dump on the land a torrential rainfall that will destroy everything living on earth except for those I have protected from My wrath.”

I looked down toward earth as a piercing roar split through the heavens as the earth’s crust began to rumble. Lightning flashed through the sky as hail pounded the earth’s surface, and rain poured down on earth without mercy.

I watched as communities were swallowed completely as the water from below the surface burst through the ground ripping trees from their roots as the rapid torrents destroyed everything in their path.

The boat began to rock back and forth as the force of the waves beat against it. I saw everyone inside the boat holding on for dear life. Noah’s wife cried out, “I’m scared, Noah. How are we going to survive God’s wrath?”

“It’s going to be okay” Noah shouted over the chaos that surrounded them. “God has promised that He’ll protect us from His wrath. He’ll save us, you’ll see.” In the midst of the storm, there was peace in Noah’s eyes. 

            Noah knew that God would save his family from the flood. He knew that they wouldn’t die, because God never breaks a promise. That is why he was at peace in the midst of God’s wrath on mankind.

Have you ever been at peace in times of trouble? People look at you like you’re insane because you aren’t freaking out, but, God gives peace to His children. If we keep our thoughts on Him and trust in His promises, we can be at peace no matter what we’re going through in our lives…

            Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

“The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.”

…Cain crumbled to the ground weeping bitterly. “God, please don’t do this. Please don’t punish me so harshly.”

With anger still in His voice, God responded, “I will send you out of this land where you and your family will forever be wanderers. But I will protect you so that you will not have to experience the same fate that you have given your brother.”

From the depths of Hell, I could see Satan watching in pleasure as Cain was banished from his parents’ home.

“There is no time to waste” he screamed at his generals. “We will hurl everything that we have on mankind. We will not allow God’s masterpiece to succeed. God will regret the day He ever created them. They will become our most powerful weapon against Him.”

“But Satan” one of his generals interrupted, “how are we going to do that?”

“We will task out legions of demons to wreak havoc on all mankind. They will stop following God. They will follow me instead.”

From Heaven, I cried out, “God, how can we let this happen?”

“Michael, they must choose to follow Me.”

“How can they withstand the legions of demons that Satan is going to unleash on them?”

“Michael, if they choose to follow and worship Me, Satan will not be able to separate them from My love. They do not have to follow Satan and his demons. They can choose to follow Me instead.”… 

            God will always spare His children from His wrath, for He is a faithful God. He has promised that He will forgive us when we sin against Him, and will never turn His back on us. He wants to have a loving relationship with us instead.

Satan will do whatever he can to destroy our relationship with God. His desire is to tear us down. He will try to convince us that God doesn’t care. Satan will tell us that the only way we can make it in life is to do things on our own. He will want us to believe that we don’t need God…

Never forget that God is faithful. He will never let you down. He will never turn His back on you, and nothing will be able to separate you from His love.

 …“The fruit does look delicious, and I do want to be as wise as God” Eve whispered. I could see an evil smile form from the mouth of the snake. Eve slowly walked up to the tree, took some of the fruit, and ate it.

             “This fruit is delicious, Adam. Take a bite” she said, as she handed it to him.

 Adam stared at the fruit for a moment before taking a bite. Suddenly he dropped it and cried out “Eve, what have we done? God told us not to eat from this tree.”

 I turned and saw tears streaming down the face of God. He stood from His throne and looked at me. “I have to visit with them now, Michael. My children have fallen.”…
     

In our story we find Adam and Eve sinning for the first time. I know all of us want to say that it’s their fault that sin entered the world, but if we’re honest with ourselves, we would have to admit that we would’ve done the same thing. It’s not as if Satan came to them with horns and a pitchfork. He does not appear to us as a monster; he appears as an angel of light, but only darkness enters our hearts when we allow him in…

We have a friend in Jesus, who not only understands what we’re going through, but He lived His life perfectly, never falling to temptation. Jesus also promised that He will help us with our struggles. God doesn’t leave us alone. He helps us in our time of need…

God restored His relationship with Adam and Eve, and He will do the same for you and me. Jesus said that He stands at the door and knocks. Will you open the door and let Him in? He wants to restore the relationship you had with Him before you allowed sin to control your life. Let Him come in.

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, The Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.”

(Isaiah 40:28)

           …I stood there staring in anticipation. I couldn’t wait to see what God was going to do next.

Once again God stood and declared, “Let the earth be covered with water, and above the water let there be sky.” Immediately the vapors that covered the earth blew away. I could see right through the sky. The whole earth was covered with water, and hovering over it was the Holy Spirit.

What a beautiful sight, I thought. The clearness of the sky was captivating. I caught myself with my mouth open. As I looked around, I could see all the angels around me were doing the same.

For the second time, God smiled, knowing what He had created was good, and He sat on His throne. This time He didn’t speak. It was as if He was allowing the beauty of His creation to speak for itself. This was the second day…

I just love the fact that the first way God revealed Himself to us is that of the Creator of the Universe, but what I love most is that He is also actively involved in our lives. God isn’t sitting on His throne waiting for time to run out. He wants to have a personal relationship with us. That is why Jesus came to earth over two-thousand years ago. His message is clear, “I am not only your Creator, but, I am your Savior, as well. Come to Me, and I will give you rest.” Give your life to Jesus, and He will fill you with His everlasting love.

     I am Michael the Archangel. In this book, I would like to share with you, life changing events from the Old Testament. I was there watching God reveal His desire for mankind. He wants you to know how much He loves you...

    ...I have heard many claim throughout the centuries that God the Father was the God of Judgment in the Old Testament, and the God of Grace in the New. That is not true. He has always been the God of Grace. From the Garden of Eden to the end of time, His desire has always been to restore the relationship He had with His creation before the Fall.

     Follow me as we go on a quest for God’s own heart. If you seek Him with your whole heart, not only will you find Him, but God will also fill you with His loving grace.
